Thuraya, a Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) operator, has announced the world’s first satellite adaptor for the iPhone – Thuraya SatSleeve. Using this adapter, users can make and receive calls and text messages via satellite mode across 140 countries in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
In a press release, Samer Halawi, Chief Executive Officer of Thuraya, said, “The launch of Thuraya SatSleeve represents a major milestone and a game-changing innovation in the satellite industry. This is the first consumer friendly mobile satellite phone ever launched, which dramatically increases the reach to satellite telephony for enterprise, government, and everyday consumers alike. Thuraya SatSleeve adapter comes with a 3.7V Li-ion, 2400 mAh battery, which also acts as a backup battery for the iPhone and offers up to 4 hrs of talk time and 48 hrs of standby time. It has an array of connectivity options that includes 3.5 mm jack for headset, Micro USB, and Bluetooth.
Thuraya SatSleeve App is available as a free download from the Apple App Store in 12 different languages – English, Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish. Users can download and install the SatSleeve app in their iPhone and dock the latter into the SatSleeve adapter to enjoy calls and messages beyond the coverage of traditional terrestrial networks.
