LG Electronics, in partnership with MediaTek Inc, has announced the world's first triple-SIM technology for 3G Android Smartphones. MediaTek claims that the new technology will prevent the occurrence of dropped or poor-quality calls and allows customers to take advantage of multiple tariff plans.

Targeted towards the emerging markets, the 3G triple-SIM device will be capable of handling voice calls from one network, transmitting data over the internet using another, and receiving an SMS on the third. It also remains in standby mode concurrently without consuming excessive battery life. Users will also be able to adjust or turn off the multi-SIM function using the built-in user interface.

However, there's no word on the availability of the triple-SIM 3G Smartphones.  We’ll just have to wait, and see, whether the 3G triple-SIM device will debut as a new model or as a tweaked variant of an existing Smartphone.
