Spanish telecoms major Telefonica has kicked off the commercial launch of the world’s first Smartphone running Firefox OS - the ZTE Open. The debut model is priced at €69 (~USD $90) with €30 (~USD $39) in credit for prepaid customers.
ZTE Open sports a 3.5-inch TFT touch screen display with a HVGA resolution of 480x320 pixels. Internally, the device is powered by a single core Qualcomm MSM7227A (Snapdragon S1) chipset. For connectivity, it has 3G (UMTS), Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1. Other specs include Accelerometer, Ambient Light sensor and GPS with AGPS support.
Firefox OS is developed using HTML5 and other open Web standards. One of the key features of Firefox OS is its affordability. The ZTE Open is aimed at customers who are planning to upgrade to a Smartphone for the first time. The device is on sale starting July 2, 2013.
