Google has announced that its next version of the Android OS will be called as Kitkat. Earlier it was expected to be called as Key Lime Pie. Google followed a practice of naming each Android version after a dessert like Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean.

"This is not a money-changing-hands kind of deal," John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships, told the BBC. Instead, he said, the idea was to do something "fun and unexpected".

Google has also installed a statue of its Android mascot made out of KitKat at its headquarters.
